Earth Hour 2019
WWF’s Earth Hour 2019 is taking place on Saturday 30 March 2019 from 20:30 – 21:30 and Green Park will once again be taking part.
Starting as a symbolic light’s out event in Sydney 2007, Earth Hour is now the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature. Every year millions of people, businesses and landmarks set aside an hour to host events, switch off their lights and make noise for Earth Hour.
Green Park have taken part for the last 6 years and we would like to encourage our occupiers to take part too.
- Some ideas for celebrating Earth Hour are as follows:
- Host a candle-lit dinner
- Go stargazing
- Switch off your lights for one hour
- Walk outside and enjoy some fresh air
- Catch up on sleep
- Host an Earth Hour party
- Raise awareness, use ideas and templates from website
Across the six multi-let buildings on the park, the team will be turning off as much of the main building lighting as possible for the duration of this hour with the exception of the emergency lighting. The team will be taking before and after photo’s to demonstrate the difference this makes and we will report on our findings to review the energy saved during this hour.
The main purpose of this hour is to reflect on some of the choices you make regarding the environment. Everyone can make a small change—buy a reusable water bottle, turn off the lights when it’s not used, recycle, and enlighten others about the importance of taking care of the planet.
